I introduce to you, The Body Composition Hierarchy of Needs.
These are the 5 bigger picture factors that actually deserve your attention.
I may have created a fancy little graphic for these, but these factors have been studied for decades surrounding their impact on our body composition (the amount of fat we carry, amount of muscle, etc.).
Personally, understanding the importance of these 5 factors has saved me an unquantifiable amount of stress—The worry of trying to pinpoint where I may be going wrong.
Why?
Because... after I check in on each of these factors, I almost always find the solution I'm looking for.
Example:
ME: "I'm just feeling off this afternoon. I wonder why..."
ALSO ME:
1. Have I been getting my 7-8 hours of sleep per night?
2. Have I been drinking enough water?
3. Have I been eating an appropriate amount of calories?
4. Have I been exercising?
5. Have I been intentional about de-stressing?
After cycling through these questions, which tie directly to the hierarchy above, I'll figure it out. "Aha! I've only sleep 6 hours the last few nights." or "I've been so busy the last 24 hours, I haven't even given myself 15 minutes to breathe and step outside."
My argument is this: Sometimes, the answer is right under our noses. We've heard these 5 factors regurgitated ad nauseam, so we assume we have them dialed in...
Wrong.
Although they may be obvious, knowing about them is different than being self-aware (and honest with oneself) about our commitment to keeping them in-check. So... Are you keeping them in-check?
